Terms & Conditions

Let me first say that I completely stand by my work, so in the event there is a problem, I'm going to do my best to keep my raving fans. The problem lies within the choice of material in some cases.

This is not a license to do questionable work... but as with anything there are limitations and these things you should be aware of ( The Dreaded Disclaimer! :(

The pieces for sale and presented here are handcrafted with a combination of hand and power tools and bench made from large and thick pieces of solid wood of a variety of species such as: Maple, Oak, Cherry, Walnut, Poplar, Pine, etc.

As such, there are a number of conditions that exist when working with thick solid wood planks, beams, logs, and lumber and various metals. Many of these issues (such as moisture content) can be controlled within reason but the true beauty of mother natures' work becomes apparent when you allow it to happen.

Please note the following:

  • Natural wood displays seasonal movement due to temperature and humidity.
  • Small splits or cracks may or may not occur or get bigger which will add interest and character to the piece.
  • Color variation is present in many species but is more prevalent in some than in others and sometimes can vary with age, sunlight exposure, etc..
  • Various stages of mineralization, natural decay, insect holes, knots, cracks are often times included which directly contributes to the character and beauty of the piece and are not considered defects.
  • Grain patterns vary greatly from straight tight lines to wavy, curly patterns.
  • Some pieces feature a natural bark component or entire bark edge, which may or may not come loose over time and is considered to be normal wear.
  • Some pieces will display rough saw marks, tool marks, rust or mineral staining, joint lines, old nails all of which add interest to the piece without affecting performance.
  • The metals used in the construction and assembly of bases vary in age, patina, etc. but are all structurally sound, some display rust, and various conditions from their former lives, but best efforts are used to seal and preserve this character and is also not considered a defect.

Each piece is slowly tooled and processed and observed until the best of mother nature and the best nature of the material comes shining through, and here's what you can do to help keep it that way.

Recommended care:

  • The two-part catalyzed lacquer finish used for finished table tops is durable enough for daily use, but should be protected from excess heat and moisture.
  • Non-wax wood polish can be used for general cleaning and maintenance but avoid using products that contain ammonia, silicone, harsh chemicals or abrasives.
  • Metal legs or frames also receive a lacquer finish, so if necessary, these should be hand washed with mild soap and slightly damp cloth and then dried immediately.
  • Never place hot dishes or wet objects directly on surfaces, always use place mat, coaster, or trivet.
  • In dry indoor environments a humidifier helps prevent cracking and movement with wood

Live Edge Wood Slabs:

  • All wood has been air dried at sawyer in protected area for 6 to 12 months
  • Then, stored in a temperature controlled shop for 6 to 12 months.
  • Moisture content will vary but is generally ready for your project.
  • If you need an MC reading I will be happy to check for you or bring your own meter.
