Fine but open grain. Moderately coarse texture. Excellent to work. Many woodworkers would steam the walnut to even out the difference in color between the sapwood and heartwood, but I think it’s great. Complex grain waves and patterns occur often in highly figured pieces. These slabs have been debarked and planed.
